Luciano Pavarotti
My favorite tenor signing my favorite aria:
For those of you who'd like a reminder of WHY Luciano Pavarotti OWNS Nessun Dorma, I offer you this:
I can't help myself...I cry each and every time I hear this aria (I really do). I've been blubbering all evening...

RIP.
He OWNS that aria. Noone will ever ever ever even come close. I heard him sing it live, in a relatively small concert hall. He almost didn't need a microphone. He made my entire being vibrate. That day, I understood why I had ears and a soul. And how they can be connected.
Applauding Maestro Pavarotti in a final standing ovation.
Yes, Fiona, he truly does. Opera has been truly blessed with many fine tenors. I happen to enjoy Placido Domingo immensely. Still, as the rendition of Nessun Dorma by the three tenors demonstrates, no one could belt it out like Luciano!
May his song reverberate throughout eternity...
I, too, blubber like baby when I hear him sing Nessun Dorma. I'll miss that huge smile of his...
As a Mario Lanza fan I'd better throw my hat in here first, and hope not to be lynched.
I'd still like to add my "thank you" to another great tenor. He will never be truly lost to us, his body of work will live on.... through eternity. R.I.P.
et tu, Gigi?
Mario Lanza passed away when I was eight. I didn't come to recognize his voice until later (as well as that of Enrico Caruso). Unfortunately, the technology of the time did not permit truly faithful, rich recordings. Current singers fare much better in comparison, but it's the technology that brings them to life.
Her Highness is blubbering. As a lover of opera, it is a loss. Lanza, Caruso, Pavarotti...oh how they gave the world's heart a beat and a sigh so deep. *sob*.
Aaaargh. I'm sorry, Your Highness...I found an absolutely thrilling rendition by Luciano of Donizetti's Una Furtiva Lagrima. The video was subsequently deleted. Sigh.
