Luggage vs. Baggage
I spent the day paying bills in advance and doing laundry. ‘Cuz, you see, I’m leaving on a jet plane bound for a different continent (moving back and forth in time to boot). And this whole process got me to thinking ‘bout the difference between luggage and baggage.
I’m gonna lug about a bit o’ luggage. Just one piece o’ luggage, though...just capacious enough to contain two weeks’ worth of underwear and socks. A sweater and a toothbrush. There's that “man purse” just big enough to hold a camera, a passport, and a novel worth reading.
Yeah, I got the luggage thing down pat.
It’s the baggage that confounds. I’m not the innocent, wide-eyed naïf I once was. No. My cataritic eyes view the world differently, nowadays. And this heart of mine? It’s a bit sclerotic.
I gots me a suitcase. A passport. An e-ticket and an itinerary. And I gots me a heart that’s broken in too many ways to count. I gots me way-too-big loads of cynical and skeptical.
I gots me luggage and I gots me baggage.
I can do without the baggage.

Ah, Jonas.... We all have baggage. It's a fact of life. As long as it sometimes gets left stored in a corner, it's okay. And that broken heart of yours? Through the crackle and the crazes, it shines through just fine.
I hope you have a wonderful trip. Be safe and enjoy!
Hope you have a wonderful trip.
If you get a chance you might enjoy this movie, "The Darjeeling Limited" about three brothers traveling across India with their father's baggage. Most interesting.
As for your own baggage, we've all got that Jonas, it's what makes us interesting:)
Lol. I know it's not funny, not really, but hell...can't fit all of my packings in luggage. I need steam trunks and freight cars. I've got more baggage than the airport! And yet, you listen to me, I listen to you, while we sort our socks. Eventually we discover what not to pack anymore, those useless items that just make the journey more arduous. Just takes time, and a little more sorting. You'll get there. Me too I hope :)
I know I had left a comment here before Blogger had a seizure...
We all have baggage, and it's a fact of life. It's how well you store it that really matters. It doesn't need to be dragged around behind you everywhere you go, but neither should it be stuffed in a closet and the door slammed shut. It needs to be sorted, dealt with and put on the shelf; recognized for what it is and left as a reminder of what not to do.
Luggage, on the other hand, should be whatever you want it to be! I hope you have a wonderful time and that your luggage tags along for the whole trip and doesn't get lost somewhere in the system.
We get to pick our luggage but I don't think we have much say in the baggage.
Arrgh, Blogger ate my comment too. But, hey, it won't be the first time I repeat myself.
I'm holding good thoughts for you that maybe you can unload some of that baggage while you are away. Safe travels, Jonas.
I wish I were going to a place where I needed a passport. With just a camera and a book. Oh, and comfy shoes and a functional outfit and a sexy outfit. Have fun on your travels and the baggage will fall by the wayside.
Very true post, its just what happens around us.
meet and greet luton
