Tough Love?
Love’s a tough critter. One of the toughest. Love can survive all manner of illness, dire financial hardship, mishaps, missteps, misery, distance, time and death itself.
Impressive. Awe-inspiring.
It would seem that Love can endure and survive anything. Not quite.

It can’t survive neglect or lack of respect.

Contempt, abuse, self-absorption - actually there are many things love can't survive!
Contempt, abuse and self-absorption...aren't these indicative of a lack of respect and/or neglect?
I have seen many relationships feel due to lack of respect. It really is something that will tear love apart.
i agree its a basic denominator, respect, and those others are tangents, neglect or misplaced emotions or pathologies are not even on the menu if respect is there. the kind of respect that is humbling (without needing the sacrifice of ones own integrity ie the real thing
Neglect is the one with which I've had most experience... and it's a killer every time.
love is a tentative yearling, can't survive a truck either.
How true.
What about the withdrawal of projection? Love often doesn't survive that either.
Happy Valentine's Day, Jonas!!!
yes, it is always neglect...not just towards the other, but within, or of basic self as well.
I've been mulling these comments for many days, now. Thank you for sharing.
"...the kind of respect that is humbling..." - Humility is vastly underrated. It is essential.
"Love is a tentative yearling" - Gotta love a peripatetic mind!
"...withdrawal of projection..." - I wonder. If love is founded on projections is it ever real/authentic?
Thanks for dropping in RWK! Your comment sent me reeling like a whap upside the head. Self-neglect. Yes. It's a killer. I've neglected/abused myself for far too long. Thank you for the wake-up call.
From the comic, Christopher Titus: "I lost 28 pounds during my divorce. Yeah. That's how much my soul weighed."
And a belated Happy Valentine's Day hug for all!
