Simple Things
Life’s pleasures come from simple things...
Fingertips brushed across thigh
Honest conversation
Lips and kisses and
a bottle of wine...
And, oh yes, a starlit night.
I’m the sort who prefers to keep things simple:
I love you
I hope you’ll love me, too.
‘Til the stars fall from the sky...
* * *
But it ain't all that simple, is it?

Everything is pretty simple when you hash it down to it's bare bones. The problem is with us, you know. We bring a lot of shit to the table with us.
What Maria said.
There was a news report on TV the other day explaining scientific studies that prove all romantic love is like chemical addiction. We've always known it had its obsessive compulsive components, but now it seems we need a 12 step program to handle our attachments.
Is it... and it isn't. When we figure it out, it's magic.
No Jonas, I don't believe it is. I think love is a very complex ride consisting of simple pleasures and simple pains that swirl together into something grand, or something far less so. Can't know til you swirl. Glad you're a swirler. Some won't even try.
Some words always need definitions, you've defined love in your poem, that's one of the definitions I agree with ... but there are others.
I enjoyed these comments! The thing 'bout Love is that it takes a good bit of living and loving to gain insights. Some may be quick studies, others careening about on the remedial side, either way, we live and learn.
I'm laughing, Kass. It's why I have the Lou Reed song "My Love is Chemical" on my playlist.
I am certain of only one thing: as long as there are human beings on this planet the same questions will remain a constant preoccupation.
hmmmm.....to me, doesn't matter the cause or the cure - just that "it" IS - till the stars fall from the sky!!!!
Everything is easier in theory.
Perhaps easier in word or poetry.
And then there is the garbage that each of us carries, even with good intentions.
I often think we are held back by these bodies and their electrical workings.
You theorize beautifully.
