Voices
There are voices that soothe
Voices that grate on nerves
Voices never heard
Recognized
Respected
Voices
So many voices
I pray to be deaf!
I pray for wise ears!
Pray for discerning,
Sensitive ears!
Pray, pray, pray
To be deaf when necessary
Pray, pray, pray
To hear what I need
Or must
For salvation
Or satisfaction
I pray to hear laughter
Sweet music
Sweet nothings

I hear you Jonas, as no doubt your prayers are heard. Sweet nothings are a thing of couples. What do we hear when we are no longer part of a couple? I hear silence. A silence that is full of somethings.
((Hugs)) Jonas. Lovely poem.
Oh, dear Annie, I hear you. There was a time (a long time, too long time, when I heard nothing or too little).
It took a few years before I began to hear again. Even so, sixty years and counting, I still don't understand what all the voices try to say.
And, yes, indeed, "sweet nothings' are the province of couples and love.
This solitary man places ear to ground...
A lovely prayer indeed.
I have no problem filtering out all those external voices. The harshest voice usually comes from within. Teaching that voice to be supportive and loving... so difficult.
Yes. Just let me hear the sweet, soulful voices. Nothing more. Fortunately I am like Patti and can tune out the rest!
Thanks for the comments!
I'm not sure which voices to tune out and which to hear.
And, yes, the harshest voice I hear comes from within.
