Doing the Best I Can
I’m living the best I can...as a man who (not that long ago) woke each morning wondering...will this be the best day to die?
I’m listening the best I can...albeit with ears long ago deafened by diatribes, accusations and vilifications. Speak louder.
I’m loving the best I can...although I really don’t know what love is. Show me.
I’m hoping the best I can...all the while not knowing what to hope for.
Come to me in dreams.
I’m praying the best I can...although there’s no one listening.
Despite it all, I pray.
I’m doing the best I can...and praying I’ll do better. Bear with me.

I so very happy you didn't find a best day.
You heard, even through the tears.
Neither do I, but I too am trying.
Keep dreaming.
Keep praying, there is someone listening.
Always.
All any of us can ask of ourselves is our best... everyday~~
We can only do our best.
How can I help? Seriously.
I weep at your writing Jonas.
The wisdom of my years is that I am now slowly coming to be the person I was meant to be.
A favourite quote of mine is from one of my all time favourite movies; and a movie for which I make no apology: The Sound of Music. Mother Superior turns to the young Sr Maria and says: 'You have to live the life you were born to live'.
... and live it as best you can.
I am sure that you do Jonas; humans are not perfect creations and the struggle is part of the human condition.
Onward and upward in excelsior!
Ah, My Delight, thank you!
Ms. Cheese and Deb...I promise to keep trying.
Anna...sweetie...you already do.
Yes, Your Highness...onward and upward!
Love this photo -- it suits your words nicely.
I'm not surprised you appreciated the photo, Ms. TWPITG, given your love of photography. I'm delighted you like it.
Just keep doing the right things.
And you are.
wow.
i hate when my best isnt good enough.
Thanks, Roads.
Me, too, Meleah. Me, too. Thanks for stopping by.
This is so moving. It does get harder to cling to hopes and dreams as we grow older but if you can write like this, my God, you have so much to give and offer. There is such melancholy and beauty in your writing and that in itself, is hopeful.
Now you've gone and done it, haven't you? I'm a fan!
Ah, Selma...you're too sweet...too kind...
Wow, do I ever know what you speak of. I'm still kinda trying to clamber out of something and I'm not so sure I want to make that effort anymore. It's safer where I am. Kind of lonely sometimes, but safe. I just want to rest in peace while I'm still alive.
Ms. Smiler, I've known the joys of one alone...I've known the joys of two together. I prefer the latter.
Thank you for stopping by.
keep hoping, you never know just how much power your thoughts hold, and how much they alone can flip a situation 180.
keep listening, for that is the best way you can stay in tune with the flow of nature.
keep praying, because even though you're doing the best you can, everyone faces times when they couldn't have made it without help from a higher power.
thank you for your self-expression...your words are simply beautiful...
Thank you Stars. Thank you.
One of my favorite quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti is. "You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems and suffer and understand, for all that is life."
I think that explains it all.
Kind of off topic, but I think you like to run even when no one is chasing you? I saw this and thought you might be interested in it.

Yes, Jay, Life is ALL that...and more...
It's up to each and every one of us to make the best of it...
By the by...I used to be a runner...
